1سَأَلَ سَآئِلُۢ بِعَذَابٖ وَاقِعٖA supplicant asked for a punishment bound to happen2لِّلۡكَٰفِرِينَ لَيۡسَ لَهُۥ دَافِعٞTo the disbelievers; of it there is no preventer3مِّنَ ٱللَّهِ ذِي ٱلۡمَعَارِجِ[It is] from Allah, owner of the ways of ascent4تَعۡرُجُ ٱلۡمَلَـٰٓئِكَةُ وَٱلرُّوحُ إِلَيۡهِ فِي يَوۡمٖ كَانَ مِقۡدَارُهُۥ خَمۡسِينَ أَلۡفَ سَنَةٖThe angels and the Spirit will ascend to Him during a Day the extent of which is fifty thousand years5فَٱصۡبِرۡ صَبۡرٗا جَمِيلًاSo be patient with gracious patience6إِنَّهُمۡ يَرَوۡنَهُۥ بَعِيدٗاIndeed, they see it [as] distant7وَنَرَىٰهُ قَرِيبٗاBut We see it [as] near1 lecture →8يَوۡمَ تَكُونُ ٱلسَّمَآءُ كَٱلۡمُهۡلِOn the Day the sky will be like murky oil9وَتَكُونُ ٱلۡجِبَالُ كَٱلۡعِهۡنِAnd the mountains will be like wool10وَلَا يَسۡـَٔلُ حَمِيمٌ حَمِيمٗاAnd no friend will ask [anything of] a friend11يُبَصَّرُونَهُمۡۚ يَوَدُّ ٱلۡمُجۡرِمُ لَوۡ يَفۡتَدِي مِنۡ عَذَابِ يَوۡمِئِذِۭ بِبَنِيهِThey will be shown each other. The criminal will wish that he could be ransomed from the punishment of that Day by his children12وَصَٰحِبَتِهِۦ وَأَخِيهِAnd his wife and his brother13وَفَصِيلَتِهِ ٱلَّتِي تُـٔۡوِيهِAnd his nearest kindred who shelter him14وَمَن فِي ٱلۡأَرۡضِ جَمِيعٗا ثُمَّ يُنجِيهِAnd whoever is on earth entirely [so] then it could save him15كَلَّآۖ إِنَّهَا لَظَىٰNo! Indeed, it is the Flame [of Hell]16نَزَّاعَةٗ لِّلشَّوَىٰA remover of exteriors17تَدۡعُواْ مَنۡ أَدۡبَرَ وَتَوَلَّىٰIt invites he who turned his back [on truth] and went away [from obedience]18وَجَمَعَ فَأَوۡعَىٰٓAnd collected [wealth] and hoarded19۞إِنَّ ٱلۡإِنسَٰنَ خُلِقَ هَلُوعًاIndeed, mankind was created anxious20إِذَا مَسَّهُ ٱلشَّرُّ جَزُوعٗاWhen evil touches him, impatient21وَإِذَا مَسَّهُ ٱلۡخَيۡرُ مَنُوعًاAnd when good touches him, withholding [of it]22إِلَّا ٱلۡمُصَلِّينَExcept the observers of prayer23ٱلَّذِينَ هُمۡ عَلَىٰ صَلَاتِهِمۡ دَآئِمُونَThose who are constant in their prayer24وَٱلَّذِينَ فِيٓ أَمۡوَٰلِهِمۡ حَقّٞ مَّعۡلُومٞAnd those within whose wealth is a known right25لِّلسَّآئِلِ وَٱلۡمَحۡرُومِFor the petitioner and the deprived26وَٱلَّذِينَ يُصَدِّقُونَ بِيَوۡمِ ٱلدِّينِAnd those who believe in the Day of Recompense27وَٱلَّذِينَ هُم مِّنۡ عَذَابِ رَبِّهِم مُّشۡفِقُونَAnd those who are fearful of the punishment of their Lord28إِنَّ عَذَابَ رَبِّهِمۡ غَيۡرُ مَأۡمُونٖIndeed, the punishment of their Lord is not that from which one is safe29وَٱلَّذِينَ هُمۡ لِفُرُوجِهِمۡ حَٰفِظُونَAnd those who guard their private parts30إِلَّا عَلَىٰٓ أَزۡوَٰجِهِمۡ أَوۡ مَا مَلَكَتۡ أَيۡمَٰنُهُمۡ فَإِنَّهُمۡ غَيۡرُ مَلُومِينَExcept from their wives or those their right hands possess, for indeed, they are not to be blamed31فَمَنِ ٱبۡتَغَىٰ وَرَآءَ ذَٰلِكَ فَأُوْلَـٰٓئِكَ هُمُ ٱلۡعَادُونَBut whoever seeks beyond that, then they are the transgressors32وَٱلَّذِينَ هُمۡ لِأَمَٰنَٰتِهِمۡ وَعَهۡدِهِمۡ رَٰعُونَAnd those who are to their trusts and promises attentive33وَٱلَّذِينَ هُم بِشَهَٰدَٰتِهِمۡ قَآئِمُونَAnd those who are in their testimonies upright34وَٱلَّذِينَ هُمۡ عَلَىٰ صَلَاتِهِمۡ يُحَافِظُونَAnd those who [carefully] maintain their prayer35أُوْلَـٰٓئِكَ فِي جَنَّـٰتٖ مُّكۡرَمُونَThey will be in gardens, honored36فَمَالِ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُواْ قِبَلَكَ مُهۡطِعِينَSo what is [the matter] with those who disbelieve, hastening [from] before you, [O Muhammad]37عَنِ ٱلۡيَمِينِ وَعَنِ ٱلشِّمَالِ عِزِينَ[To sit] on [your] right and [your] left in separate groups38أَيَطۡمَعُ كُلُّ ٱمۡرِيٕٖ مِّنۡهُمۡ أَن يُدۡخَلَ جَنَّةَ نَعِيمٖDoes every person among them aspire to enter a garden of pleasure39كَلَّآۖ إِنَّا خَلَقۡنَٰهُم مِّمَّا يَعۡلَمُونَNo! Indeed, We have created them from that which they know40فَلَآ أُقۡسِمُ بِرَبِّ ٱلۡمَشَٰرِقِ وَٱلۡمَغَٰرِبِ إِنَّا لَقَٰدِرُونَSo I swear by the Lord of [all] risings and settings that indeed We are able41عَلَىٰٓ أَن نُّبَدِّلَ خَيۡرٗا مِّنۡهُمۡ وَمَا نَحۡنُ بِمَسۡبُوقِينَTo replace them with better than them; and We are not to be outdone42فَذَرۡهُمۡ يَخُوضُواْ وَيَلۡعَبُواْ حَتَّىٰ يُلَٰقُواْ يَوۡمَهُمُ ٱلَّذِي يُوعَدُونَSo leave them to converse vainly and amuse themselves until they meet their Day which they are promised43يَوۡمَ يَخۡرُجُونَ مِنَ ٱلۡأَجۡدَاثِ سِرَاعٗا كَأَنَّهُمۡ إِلَىٰ نُصُبٖ يُوفِضُونَThe Day they will emerge from the graves rapidly as if they were, toward an erected idol, hastening44خَٰشِعَةً أَبۡصَٰرُهُمۡ تَرۡهَقُهُمۡ ذِلَّةٞۚ ذَٰلِكَ ٱلۡيَوۡمُ ٱلَّذِي كَانُواْ يُوعَدُونَTheir eyes humbled, humiliation will cover them. That is the Day which they had been promised
