1لَآ أُقۡسِمُ بِهَٰذَا ٱلۡبَلَدِI swear by this city, Makkah2وَأَنتَ حِلُّۢ بِهَٰذَا ٱلۡبَلَدِAnd you, [O Muhammad], are free of restriction in this city3وَوَالِدٖ وَمَا وَلَدَAnd [by] the father and that which was born [of him]4لَقَدۡ خَلَقۡنَا ٱلۡإِنسَٰنَ فِي كَبَدٍWe have certainly created man into hardship34 lectures →5أَيَحۡسَبُ أَن لَّن يَقۡدِرَ عَلَيۡهِ أَحَدٞDoes he think that never will anyone overcome him6يَقُولُ أَهۡلَكۡتُ مَالٗا لُّبَدًاHe says, "I have spent wealth in abundance7أَيَحۡسَبُ أَن لَّمۡ يَرَهُۥٓ أَحَدٌDoes he think that no one has seen him8أَلَمۡ نَجۡعَل لَّهُۥ عَيۡنَيۡنِHave We not made for him two eyes9وَلِسَانٗا وَشَفَتَيۡنِAnd a tongue and two lips10وَهَدَيۡنَٰهُ ٱلنَّجۡدَيۡنِAnd have shown him the two ways1 lecture →11فَلَا ٱقۡتَحَمَ ٱلۡعَقَبَةَBut he has not broken through the difficult pass1 lecture →12وَمَآ أَدۡرَىٰكَ مَا ٱلۡعَقَبَةُAnd what can make you know what is [breaking through] the difficult pass13فَكُّ رَقَبَةٍIt is the freeing of a slave14أَوۡ إِطۡعَٰمٞ فِي يَوۡمٖ ذِي مَسۡغَبَةٖOr feeding on a day of severe hunger15يَتِيمٗا ذَا مَقۡرَبَةٍAn orphan of near relationship16أَوۡ مِسۡكِينٗا ذَا مَتۡرَبَةٖOr a needy person in misery17ثُمَّ كَانَ مِنَ ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُواْ وَتَوَاصَوۡاْ بِٱلصَّبۡرِ وَتَوَاصَوۡاْ بِٱلۡمَرۡحَمَةِAnd then being among those who believed and advised one another to patience and advised one another to compassion3 lectures →18أُوْلَـٰٓئِكَ أَصۡحَٰبُ ٱلۡمَيۡمَنَةِThose are the companions of the right19وَٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُواْ بِـَٔايَٰتِنَا هُمۡ أَصۡحَٰبُ ٱلۡمَشۡـَٔمَةِBut they who disbelieved in Our signs - those are the companions of the left20عَلَيۡهِمۡ نَارٞ مُّؤۡصَدَةُۢOver them will be fire closed in
