وَلَقَدۡ جَآءَكُمۡ يُوسُفُ مِن قَبۡلُ بِٱلۡبَيِّنَٰتِ فَمَا زِلۡتُمۡ فِي شَكّٖ مِّمَّا جَآءَكُم بِهِۦۖ حَتَّىٰٓ إِذَا هَلَكَ قُلۡتُمۡ لَن يَبۡعَثَ ٱللَّهُ مِنۢ بَعۡدِهِۦ رَسُولٗاۚ كَذَٰلِكَ يُضِلُّ ٱللَّهُ مَنۡ هُوَ مُسۡرِفٞ مُّرۡتَابٌ
And Joseph had already come to you before with clear proofs, but you remained in doubt of that which he brought to you, until when he died, you said, 'Never will Allah send a messenger after him.' Thus does Allah leave astray he who is a transgressor and skeptic
During the life of Joseph, majority of the people of Egypt did not accept his prophethood. It was only after his death, when the administrative system of the country began to deteriorate, that the Egyptians came to realise his greatness. Then, they started saying that Joseph’s existence had been a great boon to Egypt. And they said that such a prophet would never come again. Though Joseph was a prophet of God, he was also a human being. This gave people the scope to say, ‘It is not necessary that the feats performed by Joseph were on the basis of his being a prophet. It is quite possible that as a brilliant man, he was able to put up this excellent performance.’ Under the influence of such opinions, the people of Egypt began to have doubts about his prophethood. However clear and obvious the Truth may be, in this world of trial, it is always possible for a man to find shadows of doubt in it and then deny it. Those who are by nature arrogant and haughty, and those who think that by admitting the Truth, they will lose their greatness, can never overcome their doubts. Rather they nurture and exaggerate these doubts to such an extent that they come to prevail over their minds and souls. Consequently, they are unable to think about the Truth in an unbiased and objective manner. They remain its rejecters till the day they die.
حضرت یوسف علیہ السلام کی زندگی میں مصر کے لوگوں کی اکثریت آپ کی نبوت کی قائل نهيں ہوئی۔ مگر آپ کی وفات کے بعد جب ملکی سلطنت کا نظام بگڑنے لگا تو مصریوں کو آپ کی عظمت کا احساس ہوا۔ اب وہ کہنے لگے کہ یوسف کا وجود مصر کےلیے بہت بابرکت تھا۔ ایسا رسول اب کہاں آئے گا۔ حضرت یوسف اگرچہ خدا کے پیغمبر تھے مگر اسی کے ساتھ وہ ایک انسان بھی تھے۔ اس بنا پر لوگوںکےلیے یہ کہنے کی گنجائش تھی کہ — ’’کیا ضروری ہے کہ یوسف کے کمالات پیغمبري کی بنا پر ہوں، یہ بھی تو ہوسکتا ہے کہ وہ ایک ذہین انسان ہوں اور ا س بنا پر انھوں نے کمالات ظاہر کيے ہوں‘‘۔ اسی طرح کی باتیں تھیں جن کو لے کر مصر کے لوگ آپ کے بارے میں شک میں مبتلا ہوگئے۔
حق خواہ کتنا ہی واضح ہو، موجودہ امتحان کی دنیا میں ہمیشہ اس کا امکان باقی رہتا ہے کہ آدمی کوئی شبہ کا پہلو نکال کر اس کا منکر بن جائے۔ اب جو لوگ اپنے اندر سرکشی اور گھمنڈ کا مزاج ليے ہوئے ہوں ۔ جو یہ سمجھتے ہوں کہ حق کو مان کر وہ اپنی بڑائی کھو دیں گے۔ وہ عین اپنے مزاج کے تحت انھیں شبہات میں اٹک کر رہ جاتے ہیں۔ وہ ان شبہات کو اتنا بڑھاتے ہیں کہ وہی ان کے دل ودماغ پر چھا جاتا ہے۔ نتیجہ یہ ہوتاہے کہ وہ حق کے معاملہ میں سیدھے اندازسے سوچ نہیں پاتے۔ وہ ہمیشہ اس کے منکر بنے رہتے ہیں، یہاں تک کہ اسی حال میں مر جاتے ہیں۔
