ثُمَّ بَعَثۡنَا مِنۢ بَعۡدِهِۦ رُسُلًا إِلَىٰ قَوۡمِهِمۡ فَجَآءُوهُم بِٱلۡبَيِّنَٰتِ فَمَا كَانُواْ لِيُؤۡمِنُواْ بِمَا كَذَّبُواْ بِهِۦ مِن قَبۡلُۚ كَذَٰلِكَ نَطۡبَعُ عَلَىٰ قُلُوبِ ٱلۡمُعۡتَدِينَ
Then We sent after him messengers to their peoples, and they came to them with clear proofs. But they were not to believe in that which they had denied before. Thus We seal over the hearts of the transgressors
In this verse ‘transgressors’ refers to those who, once having rejected the Truth, stick to that position, make it a prestige issue and then go on continuously ignoring the Truth so that their religious knowledge and their being on the right path do not become doubtful in others’ eyes. Those who display this sort of behaviour are punished in this world by having their hearts sealed, that is, under the law of God, their psychology becomes gradually affected and finally they lose their sensitivity to the matter of Truth. The little sensitivity which they had earlier is ultimately benumbed. They do not remain capable of being anxious about Truth and untruth, or accepting the Truth rather than untruth. The history of Noah and the succeeding prophets bears testimony to this. The condition of any preacher of Truth who comes forward on behalf of God is such that he is not surrounded by outward worldly glories. The only strength he possesses is the power of reasoning. Those who are capable of recognising Truth in the language of reason are the only ones who acknowledge the preacher of Truth. Those whom the language of argument cannot influence are incapable of accepting or supporting the preacher of Truth.
اِس آیت میں ’’حد سے گزر جانے والا‘‘ان لوگوں کو کہاگیا ہے جن کا حال یہ ہوتا ہے کہ ایک بار اگر وہ حق کا انکار کردیں تو اس کے بعد وہ اس کو اپنی ساکھ کا مسئلہ بنا لیتے ہیں اور پھر اس کو مسلسل نظر انداز کرتے رہتے ہیں تاکہ لوگوں کی نظر میں ان کا علم دین اور ان کا برسر حق ہونا مشتبہ نہ ہونے پائے۔
جو لوگ اس قسم کا رویہ اختیار کریں ان کو دنیا میں یہ سزا ملتی ہے کہ ان کے دلوں پر مہر لگا دی جاتی ہے۔ یعنی خدا کے قانون کے تحت ان کی نفسیات دھیرے دھیرے ایسی بن جاتی ہے کہ بالآخر حق کے معاملہ میں ان کا شدتِ احساس باقی نہیں رہتا۔ ابتداء ً ان کے اندر جو تھوڑی سی حساسیت زندہ تھی وہ بھی بالآخر مردہ ہوکر رہ جاتی ہے۔ وہ اس قابل نہیں رہتے کہ حق اور ناحق کے معاملے میں تڑپیں اور ناحق کو چھوڑ کر حق کو قبول کرلیں۔ حضرت نوح اور ان کے بعد آنے والے بیشتر رسولوں کی تاریخ اس کی تصدیق کرتی ہے۔
اللہ کی طرف سے جب بھی کوئی داعیٔ حق آتاہے تو وہ اس حال میں آتاہے کہ اس کے گرد کسی قسم کی ظاہری عظمت نہیں ہوتی۔ اس کے پاس جو واحد چیز ہوتی ہے وہ صرف دلیل ہے۔ جو لوگ دلیل کی زبان میں حق کو مانیں وہی داعیٔ حق کو مانتے ہیں۔ جن لوگوں کا حال یہ ہو کہ دلیل کی زبان انھیں متاثر نہ کرسکے وہ داعیٔ حق کو پہچاننے سے بھی محروم رہتے ہیں اور اس کا ساتھ دینے سے بھی۔
