يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُواْ لَا تَتَوَلَّوۡاْ قَوۡمًا غَضِبَ ٱللَّهُ عَلَيۡهِمۡ قَدۡ يَئِسُواْ مِنَ ٱلۡأٓخِرَةِ كَمَا يَئِسَ ٱلۡكُفَّارُ مِنۡ أَصۡحَٰبِ ٱلۡقُبُورِ
O you who have believed, do not make allies of a people with whom Allah has become angry. They have despaired of [reward in] the Hereafter just as the disbelievers have despaired of [meeting] the inhabitants of the graves
The People of the Book who accept the revealed scriptures, but who are backsliders, and those who are not believers are on the same level as far as the Hereafter is concerned. Those who deny the truth do not expect any human being to be resurrected from his grave. The same is true of those People of the Book who, after embracing Faith have become forgetful of their religious duties and suffer from insensitivity. In spite of their verbal acceptance of the Hereafter, their practical life assumes the same pattern as that of those who deny the truth.
آسمانی کتاب کو ماننے والے یہود اور اس کو نہ ماننے والے کافر آخرت کے اعتبار سے ایک سطح پر ہیں۔ کھلے ہوئے کافروں کو امید نہیں ہوتی کہ کوئی شخص دوبارہ اپنی قبر سے اٹھے گا۔ یہی حال ان لوگوں کا بھی ہوتا ہے جو یہود کی طرح ایمان لانے کے بعد غفلت اور بے حسی میں مبتلا ہوگئے ہوں۔ آخرت کا لفظی اقرار کرنے کے باوجود ان کی عملی زندگی ویسی ہی ہوجاتی ہے جیسی کھلے ہوئے منکرین کی زندگی۔
