وَلَوۡ نَشَآءُ لَأَرَيۡنَٰكَهُمۡ فَلَعَرَفۡتَهُم بِسِيمَٰهُمۡۚ وَلَتَعۡرِفَنَّهُمۡ فِي لَحۡنِ ٱلۡقَوۡلِۚ وَٱللَّهُ يَعۡلَمُ أَعۡمَٰلَكُمۡ
And if We willed, We could show them to you, and you would know them by their mark; but you will surely know them by the tone of [their] speech. And Allah knows your deeds
The hypocrite Muslims were jealous of their pious brethren in religion? The reason was that they felt that all progress made by Islam benefitted sincere Muslims, and this was very distressing to them. They used to wonder why they should sacrifice their lives and property in a campaign which enhanced the position of others, while conferring no greatness on them. The hypocrites hid these inner feelings in their outward behaviour. But this did not remain concealed from people of understanding. Their artificial tone revealed that their connection with Islam was that of outward show and was not in any sense heartfelt.
منافقین کی بیماری یہ تھی کہ ان کے سینوں میں حسد (ضغن) تھا۔ منافق مسلمانوں کو اپنے مخلص برادران دین سے یہ حسد کیوں تھا۔ اس کی وجہ یہ تھی کہ اسلام کی ہر ترقی انہیں مخلص مسلمانوں کے حصہ میں جاتی ہوئی نظر آتی تھی۔ یہ چیز منافقین کے لیے بے حد شاق تھی۔ وہ سوچتے تھے کہ ہم ایسی مہم میں اپنا جان و مال کیوں کھپائیں جس میں دوسروں کی حیثیت بڑھے، جس میں دوسروں کو بڑائی حاصل ہوتی ہو۔
منافقین اپنے ظاہری رویہ میں اپنی اس اندرونی حالت کو چھپاتے تھے مگر سمجھ دار لوگوں کے لیے وہ چھپا ہوا نہ تھا۔ منافقین کا مصنوعی لہجہ، ان کی درد سے خالی آواز بتا دیتی تھی کہ اسلام سے ان کا تعلق محض دکھاوے کا تعلق ہے، نہ کہ حقیقی معنوں میں قلبی تعلق۔
