وَلَقَدۡ مَكَّنَّـٰهُمۡ فِيمَآ إِن مَّكَّنَّـٰكُمۡ فِيهِ وَجَعَلۡنَا لَهُمۡ سَمۡعٗا وَأَبۡصَٰرٗا وَأَفۡـِٔدَةٗ فَمَآ أَغۡنَىٰ عَنۡهُمۡ سَمۡعُهُمۡ وَلَآ أَبۡصَٰرُهُمۡ وَلَآ أَفۡـِٔدَتُهُم مِّن شَيۡءٍ إِذۡ كَانُواْ يَجۡحَدُونَ بِـَٔايَٰتِ ٱللَّهِ وَحَاقَ بِهِم مَّا كَانُواْ بِهِۦ يَسۡتَهۡزِءُونَ
And We had certainly established them in such as We have not established you, and We made for them hearing and vision and hearts. But their hearing and vision and hearts availed them not from anything [of the punishment] when they were [continually] rejecting the signs of Allah; and they were enveloped by what they used to ridicule
The worldly status enjoyed by the Quraysh chiefs had made them arrogant. Here they have been reminded of their neighbours, the people of ‘Ad. From the point of view of civilization, they had been on a much higher plane than the Quraysh. Nonetheless, when God’s ordinance was imposed, their entire grandeur and glory were destroyed. Whatever they had considered their supports, failed to come to their rescue. A human being is, after all, going to be greatly reduced in stature before the majesty of God. But that apart, the system of the world has been devised in such a way that in this life man has to make himself small before others. This is shown by events which are the signs of God. If, before being cut down to size in the Hereafter, a man learns a lesson from these signs, he will voluntarily make himself small in this very life. Before facing the Hereafter, he will become realistic in this world itself. Different kinds of events demonstrate God’s signs, but man turns a blind eye and a deaf ear to them, for he is not prepared to learn any lesson from them.
قریش کے سرداروں کو جو دنیوی مرتبہ حاصل تھا اس نے انہیں سرکش بنا رکھا تھا۔ ان کو یاد دلایا گیا کہ اپنے پڑوس کی قوم عاد کو دیکھو۔ اس کو تمدنی اعتبار سے تم سے بھی زیادہ بڑا درجہ حاصل تھا۔ اس کے باوجودجب خدا کا فیصلہ آیا تو اس کی ساری بڑائی غارت ہو کر رہ گئی۔ ان چیزوں میں سے کوئی چیز اس کا سہارا نہ بن سکی جن کو انہوں نے اپنا سہارا سمجھ رکھا تھا۔
انسان آخر کار خدا کی بڑائی کے مقابلہ میں چھوٹا ہونے والا ہے۔ مگر دنیا کا نظام کچھ اس طرح بنایا گیا ہے کہ اسی دنیا میں آدمی کو بار بار دوسروں کے مقابلہ میں چھوٹا ہونا پڑتا ہے۔ اس طرح کے واقعات خدا کی نشانیاں ہیں۔ آدمی اگر ان نشانیوں سے سبق لے تو آخرت کے دن چھوٹا کیے جانے سے پہلے وہ خود اپنے آپ کو چھوٹا کرلے۔ وہ آخرت سے پہلے اسی دنیا میں حقیقت پسند بن جائے۔
انسان کے سامنے مختلف قسم کے واقعات خدائی نشانی بن کر ظاہر ہوتے ہیں ۔ مگر وہ اندھا بہرا بنا رہتا ہے۔ وہ ان سے سبق لینے کےلیے تیار نہیں ہوتا۔
