كَمۡ أَهۡلَكۡنَا مِن قَبۡلِهِم مِّن قَرۡنٖ فَنَادَواْ وَّلَاتَ حِينَ مَنَاصٖ
How many a generation have We destroyed before them, and they [then] called out; but it was not a time for escape
The Prophet Muhammad is a great name today, because subsequent history has glorified him. But when, in the seventh century A.D. he announced his prophethood, it was difficult for people to believe that this ordinary-looking person was chosen to receive God’s revelations. It is crucial to understand that once history has taken shape, even a blind man can recognise a prophet, but before history takes shape immense sincerity is required to acknowledge a prophet. The exceptionally different style of the Quran used to stun its opponents, but the ordinary image of the bearer of the Quran would cast them into doubt. Bent on rejecting him, these people used to denigrate the Prophet in various ways, called him a magician or a liar. They could not reconcile themselves to the possibility of their great men being in the wrong as against an ordinary man.
’’ذکر‘‘ کے اصل معنی یاد دہانی کے ہیں۔یاد دہانی کسی ایسی چیز کی کرائی جاتی ہے جو بطور واقعہ پہلے سے موجود ہو۔ قرآن کے ذی الذکر ہونے کا مطلب یہ ہے کہ قرآن ان حقیقتوں کو ماننے کی دعوت دیتاہے جو انسانی فطرت میں پہلے سے موجود ہیں۔ قرآن کی کوئی بات اب تک خلاف واقعہ یا خلاف فطرت نہیں نکلی۔ یہی اس بات کا کافی ثبوت ہے کہ قرآن سراسر حق ہے۔ اس کے باوجود جو لوگ قرآن کو نہ مانیں ان کے نہ ماننے کا سبب یقینی طور پر نفسیاتی ہے، نہ کہ عقلی۔ ان کا نہ ماننا کسی دلیل کی بنا پر نہیں ہے بلکہ اس ليے ہے کہ اس کو مان کر ان کی بڑائی ختم ہوجائے گی۔
قرآن اُس دعوت توحید کا تسلسل ہے جو پچھلے ہر دور میں مختلف نبیوں کے ذریعہ جاری رہی ہے۔پچھلے زمانوں میںجن لوگوںنے اس دعوت کا انکار کیا وہ ہلاک کردئے گئے۔ حال کے منکرین کو ماضی کے منکرین کے اس انجام سے سبق لینا چاہيے۔
