وَكَمۡ أَهۡلَكۡنَا مِن قَرۡيَةِۭ بَطِرَتۡ مَعِيشَتَهَاۖ فَتِلۡكَ مَسَٰكِنُهُمۡ لَمۡ تُسۡكَن مِّنۢ بَعۡدِهِمۡ إِلَّا قَلِيلٗاۖ وَكُنَّا نَحۡنُ ٱلۡوَٰرِثِينَ
And how many a city have We destroyed that was insolent in its [way of] living, and those are their dwellings which have not been inhabited after them except briefly. And it is We who were the inheritors
In the world, if anyone achieves material stability, he develops a superiority complex, though history has repeatedly taught that the material stability of any person or any community (nation) is not permanent. Whenever a community (nation) ignored the Truth, it was destroyed, despite all its pomp and glory. In the peninsula of Arabia, various communities or nations had come into prominence before Islam, for example, the ‘Ad, Thamud, Saba’, Madyan, and Lot’s people, etc. Everyone of them indulged in ill-founded pride, but their pride was nullified by the times, and finally they became nothing but stories of the past. The ruins of these communities spreading far and wide diminished the glory of human beings. In spite of this, in the times of the Prophet Muhammad, the great ones among his contemporaries rejected him, as if the events of the past had no lesson of interest to them.
دنیا میں کسی کو مادی استحکام حاصل ہو تو وہ بڑائی کے احساس میںمبتلا ہوجاتا ہے۔حالاں کہ تاریخ مسلسل یہ سبق دے رہی ہے کہ کسی بھی شخص یا قوم کا مادی استحکام مستقل نہیں۔ جب بھی کسی قوم نے حق کو نظر انداز کیا، ساری عظمت کے باوجود وہ ہلاک کردی گئی۔
عرب کے جغرافیہ میںاسلام سے پہلے مختلف قومیں ابھریں۔ مثلاً عاد، ثمود، سبا، مدین، قوم لوط وغیرہ۔ ہر ایک کبر میں مبتلا ہوگئی۔ مگر ہر ایک کا کبر زمانہ نے باطل کر دیا۔ اور بالآخر ان کی حیثیت گزری ہوئی کہانی کے سوا اور کچھ نہ رہی۔ ان قوموں کے کھنڈر چاروں طرح پھیلے ہوئے انسانی عظمت کی نفی کررہے تھے۔ اس کے باوجود پیغمبر اسلام کے زمانہ میں جن لوگوں کو بڑائی حاصل تھی انھوںنے پیغمبر کو اس طرح جھٹلادیا جیسے کہ ماضی کے واقعات میں ان کے حال کے ليے کوئی نصیحت نہیں۔
