وَلَقَدۡ ءَاتَيۡنَا دَاوُۥدَ وَسُلَيۡمَٰنَ عِلۡمٗاۖ وَقَالَا ٱلۡحَمۡدُ لِلَّهِ ٱلَّذِي فَضَّلَنَا عَلَىٰ كَثِيرٖ مِّنۡ عِبَادِهِ ٱلۡمُؤۡمِنِينَ
And We had certainly given to David and Solomon knowledge, and they said, "Praise [is due] to Allah, who has favored us over many of His believing servants
David was the prophet and king of the Children of Israel. His son, Solomon, succeeded him as prophet and king. Solomon’s empire extended from Palestine to Transjordan. God had given him different kinds of useful knowledge. Also, he was blessed with many things by way of miracles, for example, his ability to understand the language of birds, train them and use them to transmit messages, etc. Solomon enjoyed extraordinary superiority over his contemporaries. But this superiority only created a feeling of humility in him. Whatever he had he considered a direct gift from God. The period of Solomon’s empire extended from 965 B.C. to 926 B.C.
حضرت داؤد علیہ السلام بنی اسرائیل کے پیغمبر اور بادشاہ تھے۔ آپ کے بیٹے حضرت سلیمان علیہ السلام بھی پیغمبر اور بادشاہ ہوئے۔ آپ کی سلطنت فلسطین اور شرق اردن سے لے کر شام تک پھیلی ہوئی تھی۔ آپ کو اللہ تعالیٰ نے مختلف قسم کی صنعتی معلومات دی تھیں۔ نیز آپ کو معجزاتی طور پر کئی چیزیں عطا ہوئی تھیں۔ مثلاً چڑیوں کی بولیاں سمجھنا۔ اور ان کو تربیت دے کر انھیں خبر رسانی وغیرہ کے ليے استعمال کرنا۔ حضرت سلیمان علیہ السلام کو اپنے ہم زمانہ لوگوں پر غیر معمولی برتری حاصل تھی۔ مگر اس برتری نے ان کے اندر صرف تواضع کا جذبہ پیدا کیا۔ انھیں جو کچھ حاصل تھا اس کو انھوں نے براہِ راست خدا کا عطیہ قرار دیا۔
