إِذۡ قَالَ لَهُمۡ أَخُوهُمۡ لُوطٌ أَلَا تَتَّقُونَ
When their brother Lot said to them, "Will you not fear Allah
The community in which Lot appeared, had crossed all limits in debauchery. Not being content with their wives, they had started indulging in homosexuality. Lot taught them God-worship and piety and attempted to dissuade them from indulging in evil deeds. Lot appeared in the community as a preacher whose personality was entirely free of falsehood and he never indulged in loose talk. Also, he completely abstained from raising matters of material interest. These events were enough to establish that Lot was fully serious about whatever he was saying. But as he spoke out against the behaviour of the community, they became his enemies. For Lot’s words to carry any weight, it was necessary for the people to fear God. But the people of his community had become completely devoid of this very virtue. Then, how could they pay attention to the prophet’s teachings?
حضرت لو ط جس قوم میں آئے وہ شہوت پرستی میں حد کو پار کر گئی تھی۔ ان کے ليے ان کی بیویاں کافی نہ تھیں ۔ وہ نوجوان لڑکوں سے مباشرت کا فعل کرنے لگے تھے۔ حضرت لوط نے انھیں خدا پرستی اور تقویٰ کی تعلیم دی اور برے افعال سے انھیں منع کیا۔
حضرت لوط ان کے درمیان ایک ایسے داعی کی حیثیت سے اٹھے جس کی شخصیت جھوٹ اور فضول گوئی سے صد فی صد پاک تھی۔ قوم سے مادی مفاد کا جھگڑا چھیڑنے سے بھی انھوںنے مکمل پرہیز کیا۔ یہ واقعات یہ ثابت کرنے کے ليے کافی تھے کہ حضرت لوط جو کچھ کہہ رہے ہیں پوری سنجیدگی کے ساتھ کہہ رہے ہیں۔ مگر چوں کہ آپ کی بات قوم کی روش کے خلاف تھی وہ آپ کي دشمن ہوگئي۔ حضرت لوط کی بات کو وزن دینے کے ليے ضروری تھا کہ لوگوں کے اندر خداکا خوف ہو۔ مگر یہی وہ چیز تھی جس سے ان کی قوم کے لوگ پوری طرح خالی ہوچکے تھے۔ پھر وہ پیغمبر کی بات پر دھیان دیتے تو کس طرح دیتے۔
