۞وَهُوَ ٱلَّذِي مَرَجَ ٱلۡبَحۡرَيۡنِ هَٰذَا عَذۡبٞ فُرَاتٞ وَهَٰذَا مِلۡحٌ أُجَاجٞ وَجَعَلَ بَيۡنَهُمَا بَرۡزَخٗا وَحِجۡرٗا مَّحۡجُورٗا
And it is He who has released [simultaneously] the two seas, one fresh and sweet and one salty and bitter, and He placed between them a barrier and prohibiting partition
When two rivers meet or a river flows down into the sea, at the point of confluence, in spite of coming together, the two waters remain separate and a line of demarcation can be seen for quite a distance. The writer of these words has witnessed this scene at the meeting place of the rivers Ganges and Yamuna at Allahabad. This happens under the natural law which in the present age is known as ‘surface tension’. Similarly, at the sea coast when the tides are rising the salt sea water rides over the coastal river’s fresh water. But the surface tension keeps the two waters separate, and when the tide goes out, the saltish water withdraws from above (without affecting the water below), and the fresh water below maintains its natural character. Due to this surface tension law, it has been possible to find reservoirs of fresh water in the very midst of salt sea waters to meet the needs of voyagers.
جب کسی سنگم پر دو دریا ملتے ہیں یا کوئی بڑا دریا سمندر میں جاکر گرتاہے تو ایسے مقام پر باہم ملنے کے باوجود دونوں پانی الگ الگ رہتا ہے۔ دونوں کے بیچ میں ایک دھاری دور تک جاتی ہوئی نظر آتی ہے۔ راقم الحروف نےیہ منظر الٰہ آباد میں گنگا اور جمنا کے سنگم پر دیکھا ہے۔ یہ واقعہ اس قدرتی قانون کے تحت ہوتا ہے جس کو موجودہ زمانہ میں سطحی تناؤ (surface tension) کہاجاتا ہے۔ اسی طرح جب سمندر میں جوار بھاٹا آتا ہے تو سمندر کا کھاری پانی ساحلی دریا کے میٹھے پانی کے اوپر چڑھ جاتاہے۔ مگر سطحی تناؤ دونوں پانی کو بالکل الگ رکھتا ہے۔اور جب سمندر کا پانی دوبارہ اترتا ہے تو اس کا کھاری پانی اوپر اوپر سے واپس چلا جاتاہے اور نیچے کا میٹھا پانی بدستور اپنی سابقہ حالت پر باقی رہتا ہے۔ حتی کہ اسی سطحی تناؤ کے قانون کی وجہ سے یہ ممکن ہوا ہے کہ کھاری سمندروں کے عین بیچ میں میٹھے پانی کے ذخیرے موجود رہیں اور بحری مسافروں کو میٹھا پانی فراہم کرسکیں۔
انسانی جسم کی اصل پانی ہے۔ پانی سے انسان جیسی حیرت انگیز نوع بنی۔ پھر نسبی تعلقات اور سسرالی روابط کے ذریعے اس کی نسل چلتی رہی— اس طرح کے مختلف واقعات جو زمین پر پائے جاتے ہیں ان پر غور کیا جائے تو ان میں خدا کی قدرت کی نشانیاں چھپی ہوئی نظر آئیں گی۔
