وَلَقَدۡ قَالَ لَهُمۡ هَٰرُونُ مِن قَبۡلُ يَٰقَوۡمِ إِنَّمَا فُتِنتُم بِهِۦۖ وَإِنَّ رَبَّكُمُ ٱلرَّحۡمَٰنُ فَٱتَّبِعُونِي وَأَطِيعُوٓاْ أَمۡرِي
And Aaron had already told them before [the return of Moses], "O my people, you are only being tested by it, and indeed, your Lord is the Most Merciful, so follow me and obey my order
After the departure of Moses, Aaron, entrusted with the responsibility of looking after the community, tried to guide his people, but he did not have as much influence over them as Moses did. So they did not desist from their wrongful practice of calf-worship, in spite of Aaron advising them against it. When Aaron’s insistence increased, they expressed their determination to continue. They pointed out that it would be for Moses to take a decision in this matter on his return. Had Aaron acted with sternness, it would have had no effect, because his supporters were few in number. He, therefore, preferred for the time being, to adopt a policy of patience, rather than launch himself on a futile course of action; in the meantime he prayed to God for the reformation of his people.
حضرت موسیٰ کے بعد قوم کی دیکھ بھال کی ذمہ داری حضرت ہارون پر تھی۔ انھوںنے قوم کو کافی سمجھانے کی کوشش کی۔ مگر قوم کے اوپر ان کا وہ دباؤ نہ تھا جو حضرت موسیٰ کا تھا۔اس ليے ان کے منع کرنے کے بعد بھی لوگ اس سے نہ رکے۔ حضرت ہارون کا اصرار بڑھا تو لوگوں نے کہا کہ اب جوہوگیا وہ تو اسی طرح جاری رہے گا۔ موسیٰ جب لوٹ کر آئیں گے تو وہی اس کا فیصلہ کریںگے۔
حضرت ہارون اس وقت اگر کوئی سخت اقدام کرتے تو وہ نتیجہ خیز نہ ہوتا۔ کیوں کہ آپ کے ساتھ جو لوگ تھے ان کی تعداد کم تھی۔ آپ نے بے نتیجہ کارروائی کرنے کے مقابلہ میں اس کو زیادہ مناسب سمجھا کہ وقتی طور پر صبر کا طریقہ اختیا رکرلیں۔ اور لوگوں کي اصلاح کے لیے اللہ تعالیٰ سے دعا کرتے رہیں۔
