وَقَالَتِ ٱلۡيَهُودُ لَيۡسَتِ ٱلنَّصَٰرَىٰ عَلَىٰ شَيۡءٖ وَقَالَتِ ٱلنَّصَٰرَىٰ لَيۡسَتِ ٱلۡيَهُودُ عَلَىٰ شَيۡءٖ وَهُمۡ يَتۡلُونَ ٱلۡكِتَٰبَۗ كَذَٰلِكَ قَالَ ٱلَّذِينَ لَا يَعۡلَمُونَ مِثۡلَ قَوۡلِهِمۡۚ فَٱللَّهُ يَحۡكُمُ بَيۡنَهُمۡ يَوۡمَ ٱلۡقِيَٰمَةِ فِيمَا كَانُواْ فِيهِ يَخۡتَلِفُونَ
The Jews say "The Christians have nothing [true] to stand on," and the Christians say, "The Jews have nothing to stand on," although they [both] recite the Scripture. Thus the polytheists speak the same as their words. But Allah will judge between them on the Day of Resurrection concerning that over which they used to differ
To the Israelites the criterion of truth was their association with the prophets and saints. That was why they believed that their community was in the right while other communities were in the wrong. As for the Christians, they considered themselves unique in that God’s ‘beloved son’ had been sent to them. Even the polytheists of Makkah thought of themselves as superior to others, basing their claim on the fact that they were the guardians of God’s Sacred House. Thus every nation had set its own self-styled religious standards, according to which they themselves inevitably appeared to be in the right, and everyone else in the wrong. Their actions, however, did not substantiate their claims. For one thing, they had become divided into sects, though all of them swore allegiance to the divine scriptures. They took every opportunity to deny others the right to enter places of worship, though they would say that they were doing this to protect the sanctity of these places. In fact they were ruining them, for places of worship become derelict when people are denied the right of worship there. If a worshipper has the correct attitude, he will never deny the right to worship to those who come to do so; he will never persecute those who come to serve the Lord. When one is truly conscious of God’s greatness and one’s own helplessness before Him, one’s humility will show in one’s dealings with others: one will not seek to harm one’s fellow men in any way, let alone deny them their fundamental right to worship God.
پیغمبر اسلام صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کی بعثت کے وقت عرب میں تین بڑی قومیں آباد تھیں ، یہود، نصاری، اور مشرکین ۔یہود نے نبیوں اور بزرگوں سے وابستگی کو حق کا معیار بنایا۔ اس وجہ سے ان کو اپنی قوم حق پر اور دوسری قومیں باطل پر نظر آئیں ۔ نصاریٰ نے اپنے اندر یہ امتیاز دیکھا کہ اللہ نے اپنا ’’اکلوتا بیٹا‘‘ ان کے پاس بھیجا۔ مکہ کے مشرکین اپنی یہ خصوصیت سمجھتے تھے کہ وہ اللہ کے مقدس گھر کے پاسبان ہیں ۔ اس طرح ہر گروہ نے اپنے حسب حال حق وصداقت کا ایک خود ساختہ معیار بنا رکھا تھا اور جب وہ اس معیار کی روشنی میں دیکھتا تو لامحالہ اس کو اپنی ذات بر سر حق اور دوسروں کی برسر باطل نظر آتی۔ مگر ان کی عملی حالت جس چیز کا ثبوت دے رہی تھی وہ اس کے بالکل برعکس تھی۔ وہ گروہ گروہ بنے ہوئے تھے۔ ان میں سے کسی کو جب بھی موقع ملتا، وہ عبادت کے لیے بنے ہوئے خدا کے گھر کو اپنے گروہ کے علاوہ دوسرے گروہ پر بند کردیتا اور اس طرح خدا کے گھر کی ویرانی کا باعث بنتا۔ عبادت خانہ تووہ مقام ہے جہاں انسان اللہ سے ڈرتے ہوئے اور کانپتے ہوئے داخل ہو۔ اگر یہ لوگ واقعۃً خدا والے ہوتے تو کیسے ممکن تھا کہ وہ عبادت کے لیے آنے والے کسی بندے کو روکیں یا اس کو ستائیں ۔ وہ تو اللہ کی عظمت کے احساس سے دبے ہوئے ہوتے، پھر ان سے اس قسم کی سرکشی کا صدور کیوں کر ہوسکتا تھا۔
انھوں نے اللہ کو انسان کے اوپر قیاس کیا۔ ایک انسان اگر مشرق میں ہو تو اسی وقت وہ مغرب میں نہیں ہوگا۔ وہ سمجھتے ہیں کہ خدا بھی اسی طرح کسی خاص سمت میں موجود ہے۔ یقیناً اللہ نے اپنی عبادت کے لیے رخ کا تعین کیا ہے مگر وہ عبادت کی تنظیمی ضرورت کی بنا پر ہے، نہ اس ليے کہ خدا اسی خاص رخ میں ملتا ہے۔ اسی طرح انسانوں پر قیاس کرتے ہوئے انھوں نے خدا کا بیٹا فرض کرلیا ۔ حالاں کہ خدا اس قسم کی چیزوں سے بلند وبرتر ہے۔ جو لوگ اس طرح خود ساختہ دین کو خدا کا دین بتائیں، ان کے لیے خدا کے یہاں رسوائی اور عذاب کے سوا اور کچھ نہیں۔
