وَمَا مَنَعَ ٱلنَّاسَ أَن يُؤۡمِنُوٓاْ إِذۡ جَآءَهُمُ ٱلۡهُدَىٰ وَيَسۡتَغۡفِرُواْ رَبَّهُمۡ إِلَّآ أَن تَأۡتِيَهُمۡ سُنَّةُ ٱلۡأَوَّلِينَ أَوۡ يَأۡتِيَهُمُ ٱلۡعَذَابُ قُبُلٗا
And nothing has prevented the people from believing when guidance came to them and from asking forgiveness of their Lord except that there [must] befall them the [accustomed] precedent of the former peoples or that the punishment should come [directly] before them
In the present world, the freedom given for the purposes of human trial allows man to find some excuse or the other for not admitting the Truth. He will find some word or the other to reject any proposition put to him. Sometimes it happens that an individual will try to counter convincing arguments by meaningless pleadings. At other times he simply ignores the argument given and demands something entirely different which, for some reason, has not so far been presented. An extreme example of this is the Prophet presenting his message supported by clear arguments to his audience, their not paying any attention to it and, completely ignoring it, saying, ‘Where is the punishment—in case of our refusal— about which you informed us? Bring it on us and let us see it.’
موجودہ دنیا میں امتحان کی آزادی ہے۔ اس بنا پر یہاں آدمی حق کا اعتراف نہ کرنے کے لیے کوئی نہ کوئی عذر پالیتاہے۔ ہر بات کو رد کرنے کے لیے اس کو کچھ نہ کچھ الفاظ مل جاتے ہیں۔ کبھی ایسا ہوتا ہے کہ وہ ایک کھلی ہوئی دلیل کو بے معنی بحثوں سے کاٹنے کی کوشش کرتاہے۔ کبھی وہ ایسا کرتاہے کہ جو دلیل دی گئی ہے اس کو نظر انداز کرکے ایک اور چیز کا تقاضا کرتاہے جو کسی وجہ سے ابھی پیش نہیں کی گئی۔
اس آخری صورت کی ایک مثال یہ ہے کہ پیغمبر نے اپنے مخاطبین کے سامنے واضح دلائل کے ساتھ اپنا پیغام پیش کیا تو انھوںنے اس پر دھیان نہیں دیا بلکہ اس سے قطع نظر کرتے ہوئے یہ کہا کہ انکار کی صورت میں تم ہم کو جس عذاب کی خبر دے رہے ہو وہ کہاں ہے، اس کو لا کر ہمیں دکھاؤ۔
