وَرَبَطۡنَا عَلَىٰ قُلُوبِهِمۡ إِذۡ قَامُواْ فَقَالُواْ رَبُّنَا رَبُّ ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَٱلۡأَرۡضِ لَن نَّدۡعُوَاْ مِن دُونِهِۦٓ إِلَٰهٗاۖ لَّقَدۡ قُلۡنَآ إِذٗا شَطَطًا
And We made firm their hearts when they stood up and said, "Our Lord is the Lord of the heavens and the earth. Never will we invoke besides Him any deity. We would have certainly spoken, then, an excessive transgression
‘Why do they not produce clear evidence?’ This question indicates that after embracing the new faith, there were prolonged discussions between these young men and the leaders of their community. But the statements made by these leaders in the course of discussions did not contain any convincing arguments in favour of polytheism (shirk). Therefore, they (the Men of the Cave) found it impossible to give up a faith whose merits stood proved for the sake of a belief which had no such advantage. On being opposed as above, had they given importance to the ‘greatness’ of the leaders of their community, they would have fallen a prey to hesitancy and doubt. But, when they gave more weight to sound reasoning and convincing arguments, it enhanced their faith. For, in respect of reasoning and arguments, these ‘great men’ appeared small to them. In spite of their outward greatness, they were found to be standing on false grounds and not on the grounds of truth.
’’یہ لوگ واضح دلیل کیوں نہیں لاتے‘‘ —اس جملہ سے اندازہ ہوتا ہے کہ ایمان لانے کے بعد ان نوجوانوں اور قوم کے بڑے لوگوں کے درمیان ایک مدت تک بحث وگفتگو رہی۔ مگر اس درمیان میں ان بڑوںکی طرف سے جو باتیں کہی گئیں ان میں شرک کے حق میں کوئی واضح دلیل نہ تھی۔ اس تجربہ نے ان توحید پرست نوجوانوں کے یقین کواور زیادہ بڑھا دیا۔ ان کے لیے ناممکن ہوگیا کہ غیر ثابت شدہ چیز کی خاطر ثابت شدہ چیز کو ترک کردیں۔
مذکورہ مخالفت کے بعد اگر وہ بڑوں کی بڑائی کواہمیت دیتے تو وہ بے یقینی اور تذبذب کا شکار ہوجاتے۔ مگر جب انھوںنے دلیل اور برہان کو اہمیت دی تو اس نے ان کے یقین میں اور اضافہ کردیا۔ کیوں كه دلیل اور برہان کے اعتبار سے یہ بڑے انھیں بالکل چھوٹے نظر آئے۔ اپنی تمام ظاہری عظمتوں کے باوجود وہ لوگ جھوٹ کی زمین پر کھڑے ہوئے ملے، نہ کہ سچ کی زمین پر۔
