وَدَخَلَ مَعَهُ ٱلسِّجۡنَ فَتَيَانِۖ قَالَ أَحَدُهُمَآ إِنِّيٓ أَرَىٰنِيٓ أَعۡصِرُ خَمۡرٗاۖ وَقَالَ ٱلۡأٓخَرُ إِنِّيٓ أَرَىٰنِيٓ أَحۡمِلُ فَوۡقَ رَأۡسِي خُبۡزٗا تَأۡكُلُ ٱلطَّيۡرُ مِنۡهُۖ نَبِّئۡنَا بِتَأۡوِيلِهِۦٓۖ إِنَّا نَرَىٰكَ مِنَ ٱلۡمُحۡسِنِينَ
And there entered the prison with him two young men. One of them said, "Indeed, I have seen myself [in a dream] pressing wine." The other said, "Indeed, I have seen myself carrying upon my head [some] bread, from which the birds were eating. Inform us of its interpretation; indeed, we see you to be of those who do good
When the ladies of high status of Egypt failed to attract Joseph’s attention towards themselves, they deemed it only right and proper that he should be sent to prison. At that time Joseph was a slave, and it was not necessary (according to the custom of the time) to follow court procedure before sending a slave to prison. The masters themselves had the power to have their slaves incarcerated in accordance with their own decisions. But the prison proved to be a stepping-stone for him. So far he had been introduced to only a few high ranking households. Now it became possible that the news of his personality would reach the king of Egypt himself. It so happened that two youths were also sent to the same prison where he was kept confined. Both of them were connected with the royal palace. Both of them had a dream in the prison and they asked Joseph to interpret these dreams. Joseph did so and his interpretation proved to be true. Thereafter one of them was released from the prison and returned to the royal palace. At the opportune moment, he told the king that there was a righteous person in the prison who gave the correct interpretation of dreams. Joseph’s imprisonment thus became a preliminary stepping-stone for access to the royal palace.
مصر کے اعلیٰ طبقہ کی خواتین جب حضرت یوسف کو اپنی طرف راغب نہ کرسکیں تو اس کے بعد انھوں نے آپ کے لیے جو مقام پسند کیا وہ قید خانہ تھا۔ چوں کہ اس وقت آپ کی حیثیت ایک غلام کی تھی اس لیے قدیم رواج کے مطابق آپ کو قید خانہ بھیجنے کے لیے کسی عدالتی کارروائی کی ضرورت نہ تھی۔ آپ کا آقا خود اپنے فیصلہ سے آپ کو قید میں ڈالنے کااختیار رکھتا تھا۔
مگر قید خانہ آپ کے لیے نیا عظیم تر زینہ بن گیا۔ اب تک ایسا تھا کہ مصر کے ایک یا چند افسروں کے گھرانے آپ سے متعارف ہوئے تھے۔ اب اس کا امکان پیداہوگیا کہ آپ کی شخصیت کا چرچا خود بادشاہ مصر تک پہنچے۔
اس کی صورت یہ ہوئی کہ آپ جس قید خانہ میں رکھے گئے اس میں دو اور نوجوان قید ہو کر آئے۔ یہ دونوں شاہی محل سے تعلق رکھتے تھے۔ ان دونوں نے قید خانہ میں خواب دیکھے اور آپ سے اس کی تعبیر پوچھی۔ آپ نے انھیں خواب کی تعبیر بتادی۔ یہ تعبیر بالکل صحیح ثابت ہوئی۔ اس کے بعد ان میں سے ایک قید خانہ سے چھوٹ کر دوبارہ شاہی محل میں پہنچا تو اس نے ایک موقع پر بادشاہ سے بتایا کہ قید خانہ میں ایک ایسا نیک انسان ہے جو خواب کی بالکل صحیح تعبیر بتاتا ہے — اس طرح آپ کا قید ہونا آپ کے لیے شاہی محل تک رسائی کا ابتدائی زینہ بن گیا۔
