وَإِن كَانَ قَمِيصُهُۥ قُدَّ مِن دُبُرٖ فَكَذَبَتۡ وَهُوَ مِنَ ٱلصَّـٰدِقِينَ
But if his shirt is torn from the back, then she has lied, and he is of the truthful
Joseph ran towards the door to save himself and Zulaykha also ran after him and caught hold of his shirt from behind. In this chaos the back of his shirt was torn. However, Joseph was able to open the door and came out. It so happened that Zulaykha’s husband was there outside the door. On seeing him, Zulaykha put all the blame on Joseph. She did not hesitate to make a false accusation against a person for whom she had been professing love only a moment earlier. Joseph said that the matter was entirely the opposite of what Zulaykha claimed. Now the question was to decide as to who was in the wrong. No third person was present on this occasion who could have been an eyewitness. At that time a wise person of the household offered good advice. (In all probability this person was already aware of the situation. Moreover, he might have already seen that Joseph’s shirt was torn from behind and not from in front.) He told all those concerned that, in the absence of an eyewitness, circumstantial evidence should be relied upon and the circumstantial evidence was that Joseph’s shirt was a clear proof of the fact that in this case it was not Joseph, but Zulaykha who had made improper advances.
حضرت یوسف اپنے آپ کو بچانے کے لیے دروازے کی طرف بھاگے۔ زلیخا بھی ان کے پیچھے دوڑی اور پیچھے سے آپ کا کرتا پکڑ لیا۔ کھینچ تان میں پیچھے کا دامن پھٹ گیا۔ تاہم حضرت یوسف دروزاہ کھول کر باہر نکلنے میں کامیاب ہوگئے۔ دروازہ کے باہر اتفاق سے زلیخا کا شوہر موجود تھا۔ اس کو دیکھتے ہی زلیخا نے سارا الزام حضرت یوسف پر ڈال دیا۔ ایک لمحہ پہلے وہ جس شخص سے اظہار محبت کررہی تھی، ایک لمحہ بعد اس پر جھوٹا الزام لگانے لگی۔
حضرت یوسف نے بتایا کہ معاملہ اس کے بالکل برعکس ہے۔ اب سوال یہ تھا کہ فیصلہ کیسے کیا جائے کہ غلطی کس کی ہے۔ کوئی تیسرا شخص موقع پر موجود نہیں تھا جو عینی گواہی دے۔ اس وقت گھر کے ایک مرد دانا نے لوگوں کو رہنمائی دی۔ اغلب ہے کہ یہ شخص پہلے حالات سے باخبر تھا۔ نیز اس نے یہ بھی دیکھ لیا تھا کہ یوسف کا کرتا آگے کے بجائے پیچھے کی طرف سے پھٹا ہوا ہے۔ مگر اس نے اپنی بات کو ایسے انداز میں کہا گویا کہ وہ لوگوں سے کہہ رہا ہے کہ جب عینی شہادت موجود نہیں ہے تو قرینہ کی شہادت (circumstantial evidence)دیکھ کر فیصلہ کرلو۔ اور قرینہ کی شہادت یہ تھی کہ حضرت یوسف کا کُرتا پیچھے کی جانب سے پھٹا ہوا تھا۔ یہ واضح طورپر اس کا ثبوت تھا کہ اس معاملہ میں اقدام زلیخا کی طرف سے ہوا ہے، نہ کہ یوسف کی طرف سے۔
