The Serene Soul

s for man, when his Lord tests him by honouring him and bestowing favours on him, he says: “My Lord has honoured me.” But when He tests him by straitening his means of life, he says: “My Lord despises me.” No! But you show no kindness to the orphan, and do not urge one another to feed the poor. Greedily you devour the inheritance of the weak, and you love riches with all your hearts. No! But when the earth is crushed to fine dust, and your Lord comes, and the angels rank on rank, and Hell is brought near, on that Day man will take heed but what good will it do him now? He will say: “Would that I had sent before me some provision for my life.” But on that Day none will punish as He will punish, nor will any bind with chains like His. Serene soul, return to your Lord, well-pleased and pleasing Him. Join My servants and enter My Paradise. (89:15-30)
